(Victor Herbert)

Read the Reviews

Times Square was not even one year old (and it had previously been called Longacre Square), when Victor Herbert's Mademoiselle Modiste opened on Christmas Day 1905.

The show was a HIT -- running for over 200 performances -- and is about Fifi, a shop girl, who becomes a stage star, the toast of Paris and ultimately weds her beloved in spite of the opposition of his aristocratic uncle. Songs include: "The Time, The Place, The Girl," "Kiss Me Again," "When The Cat’s Away," "The Mascot of The Troop," " Hats Make The Woman," and "I Want What I Want When I Want It."
