(Irving Berlin)

The producers of a new musical sail to Honolulu to find their eloped star or a suitable replacement. This 1915 musical includes "I Love A Piano," "The Girl on the Magazine," "When I'm Out With You," "Teach Me How to Love," "Everything in America is Ragtime," and "Stop! Look! Listen!".

Harry B. Smith (Book) was born in Buffalo in 1860. In Chicago he became a newspaperman. Stints as a music critic and then as a drama critic whetted his appetite for the stage. In time, he became the most prolific librettist and lyricist in history. By his own estimate, he wrote (alone or with collaborators) books for over 300 shows and lyrics for some 600 songs.

Irving Berlin (Music and Lyrics) was born in Russia in 1888. Of his nearly 1,000 songs, "Alexander's Ragtime Band" (1911) was his first hit. In 1918, while he was in the Army, he wrote, produced, and acted in Yip, Yip, Yaphank, which he re-wrote in 1942 as This Is The Army. Berlin wrote songs for several Ziegfeld Follies and Music Box Revues as well as many Broadway book musicals including As Thousands Cheer (1933), Annie Get Your Gun (1946), Miss Liberty (1949), Call Me Madam (1950), and Mr. President (1962). Musicals Tonight has also had the pleasure of reviving Watch Your Step (1914). Several of Irving Berlin's stage musicals were filmed and he also created a significant body of original work for his movies. Among the most beloved of his songs are "God Bless America" and "There's No Business Like Show Business."
